the new disc

Published on November 15th, 2010

A big part of the story this year for Shakti Tribe has been the making of our newest disc. Many trips from Long Beach to Burbank, working with engineer Matt Thorne at his MT Studios.  We began last December, recording and mixing the track “Rock On Sat Nam”, and then returned in January with drummer Walfredo Reyes Jr. (Santana, Steve Winwood, Traffic) to lay down basic tracks for five more songs – “Whatcha Gonna Do?”, “Saraswati”, “You See Me”, “Om Namah Shivaya” and “Kalikayei”. In August we recruited drummer Victor Bisetti (Los Lobos) to record the crowd favorite “Guru Life (Om Mane Pame Hum)” because we felt that song really needed to be included in this collection. Since recording basic drum tracks,  we have been layering wonderful sonic quantities of vocals and guitars, flutes and saxes, and wonderful loops and percussions, building a statement of truth and authenticity that shifts from subtle whispers to frenzied rocking climaxes in seven epic tracks. We expect the disc will be completed and available by May 2011, and we are so excited to share it with you!

Killer piano tracks from the excellent musician David Garfield have taken “Guru Life” and “Om Namah Shivaya” to a new level. This record is almost completed :)

Larisa! Guru Life is so sweet… The song and beautiful guitar are different from anything I’ve heard and I feel like I am sitting on the beach in Bali swaying to the heartfelt music. Really nice, I want to play it over and over.

Gosh, after the Ventura show I’m SO looking forward to the new disc. Sigh, looked everywhere to satisfy the lyric “What’cha gonna do with all that love?” … ha, realized it must be on the new record, yay.

    love and blessings, friends…
